Quick Q&A with Reagan Hill, Creative Director of Leslie Tyler Design

In 2 minutes, tell us how you became an entrepreneur.

I started my entrepreneurial journey because I am inherently rebel. I have never envisioned myself working for another's vision. I've obviously held jobs that have honed my skill set, but long term, I have always been obsessed with the 'possibilities' and creating something that had never existed before.

What do you do and who do you do it for?

I create sanctuaries for homeowners living in period homes. I guide clients through the unique challenges and opportunities their home offers, while creating spaces that support them psychologically.

Have you found work that sets your soul on fire?

FINALLY yes!! Not everything I have attempted has been gold. I am so ecstatic because I have, after many years of triumphs and failures, found what I can't live without. Now the struggle is staying focused enough on the numbers to also make good business decisions. I'd do this stuff for free gladly, so that's always a struggle.

What's the best business advice you've received?

'Do what's in front of you' & 'Lean In'

What has been your hardest entrepreneurial lesson learned?

Pivoting is not quitting or failure. One of my strengths is my stick-to-it-ness. Letting go of something (even if it's a whole business, YIKES!) that no longer is serving me is a part of the journey and process.
Everything isn't intended to last forever. Learning what I'm not good at is a part of uncovering what I am good at.

Ever gotten any bad business advice?

Yes, 'you want to appeal to everybody' couldn't be further from the truth.

What's your scariest/wildest/most exhilarating moment in your journey so far?

When the world stopped. Nothing was as it was before, and anything was possible.

When it comes to getting work done, early riser or night owl?

Early Riser, I'm useless after 4pm.

What responsibility do you like the least in running your business?

Taxes! I don't mind much but I think at the bottom of the list is all the clerical tasks for Uncle Sam.

What's the secret to your success?

I try to remember to zoom out and evaluate big picture. My entrepreneurial journey is only a part of a beautiful life I have, it is not everything win or lose.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs just getting started?

Listen to your gut, lean in, and give yourself grace. You'll make a mess, fall down, and feel defeated more often than not. But showing up over and over and over again will pay off, just keep at it.
